Why a Doula?

My Philosophy

I was once asked, "Why do you want to be a doula?" After a brief pause, I answered, simply, "Because I believe in it." I believe in the power of women helping laboring women. I believe in the power of constant, non-judgmental support. I believe in the power of a soft touch, of a kind word, of a strong hug. I believe in the power of information and knowledge, of reassurance and empathy. And, most importantly, I believe in the power of a woman giving birth. Being present at the birth of your child is an honor. Simply, it is an unparalleled honor. I sincerely hope that, as a doula, I demonstrate -- through my actions, words, and support -- my great respect for that honor.

"Kristy was wonderful at our birth and my husband and I highly recommend her. We were initially uncertain about having a doula, but Kristy's presence convinced us that another caring and informed person in the room is indispensable! Her relaxed composure, knowledge about the birthing process, and hands-on approach (when needed) helped us to flow through the birthing experience with confidence. Additionally, Kristy's support before and after the birth provided much reassurance and information, helping to ease us through those critical periods." -- M.C.
